Natural “Releaf”

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring chemical compound derived from the cannabid sativa plant. Touted as a miracle cure for a number of ailments, the most scientifically studied benefits currently include relief from seizures, anxiety, insomnia and chronic pain. Some CBD manufacturers have come under government scrutiny for wildly fantastical claims that CBD is a cure-all for cancer and COVID-19, while more research is needed, these claims are untrue and clients are encouraged to seek medical care for these conditions that cannot be provided at Greene Bodywork.

Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), another compound in cannabis, CBD is non-psychoactive; so you cannot get high and you will not fail a drug test due to CBD use. According the World Health Organization, “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”

Please consult your doctor before using CBD if you are taking any medications as CBD can interact with important medications like blood thinners, heart medications, and immunosuppressants, potentially changing the levels of these important medications in the blood.

Plant Power

Aromatherapy is the centuries old practice of using plant extracts to support health and well-being. Essential oils used in aromatherapy are made by steaming or pressing various parts of a plant, such as the flowers, bark, leaves or fruit to collect the compounds that produce fragrance.

When applied topically, some plant chemicals are absorbed through the skin and can have many positive effects on the body.

Inhaling the aromas from essential oils has been shown to stimulate areas of the limbic system, the part of the brain responsible for emotions, behaviors, sense of smell, and long-term memory. Claims of essential oils abilities to exert a physical effects on the body are unfortunately understudied and therefore lacking scientific evidence; however, the limbic system also plays a role in controlling several autonomic physiological functions, such as breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure, so it is likely that stimulating this part of the brain with essential oils can affect these functions.

There are as many essential oils as there are plants, each associated with a variety of health claims,
some backed by scientific study while others are anecdotal.
All essential oils used at Greene Bodywork are diluted with fractionated coconut oil, and blends are mixed in house.
